TOURNAMENT RULES & REGULATIONS

  1. LRVC VOLLEYBALL CLUB will NOT be held responsible for any injury, lost or stolen items.
  2. All entries must include a minimum of five (5) players and maximum of seven (7) players. A player cannot be added or switched after the official check–in without consent of Management Committee.
  3. All players and their guests will be expected to behave in a proper manner. Food and beverages are not allowed in the gym. There will be no littering, defacement or vandalism of any kind. Tobacco and alcohol are strictly prohibited. If you are found in violation of this rule, the team you are affiliated with may be disqualified from the tournament.
  4. Team opponents shall be determined by luck of the draw conducted by the Management Committee.
  5. The captain of the winning team will assign two (2) referees. One head referee is tasked with controlling the game in general and commencement of serves. The other will be in charge of keeping score, time and timeouts. Both referees shall make line calls and give fouls at their sole discretion. Note: the head referee's decision shall be deemed final.
  6. A referee may assign a technical foul if the referee deems a player or team has not conducted themselves in a sportsman-like manner. Upon such assessment, the referee shall award a point to the opposing team plus a loss of service to the guilty party, if applicable. Repetitive behavioral problems shall result in team disqualification.
  7. All games shall be played to eleven (11) points or eleven (11) minutes, whichever comes first. Referee may stop a game and the clock at his discretion. In case of an injury or common point, the point will be replayed and no time-out will be charged. The referee will remind both teams when two (2) minutes remain and when play is for the last point. First team to score eleven (11) points, wins the game. If the score is tied after regulation play, the game shall be decided by sudden death. Sudden death will be a one-point rally scoring and a coin toss will determine who will serve.
  8. After the referee's whistle, the ball shall be promptly served with a clear toss. The server may not touch the boundary line or enter into the court during the service. All other players should be in their positions prior to the service, otherwise a side out will be awarded.
  9. All balls, including services, falling on or partially falling on boundary lines shall be considered fair balls.
  10. If the ball or player hits any obstruction in any direction or adjacent court, the ball will be deemed foul.
  11. Merely stepping on the centerline or touching it does not constitute a foul. However, completely crossing over the centerline shall constitute a foul.
  12. During a game, each team shall be allowed two (2) time-outs consisting of one (1) minute each. Only the team captain is permitted to call time-outs. The clock will not run during the time-outs. One does not need to have possession of the ball to call a time-out.
  13. Captains, on any dead balls, may make up to two substitutions per game without having to call for a time-out.
  14. Spiking is permitted on first attempt only. Fingering is not allowed on any attempt to any player on your team or opposing.
  15. A back row player cannot jump hit a ball in front of the 3 meter line. If a player makes contact with the ball starting his jump outside the 3 meter line, the ball shall be deemed fair regardless of where the feet land.
  16. No deflections or blocks at the net will be permitted. A block during service is not permitted. Only time a block is permitted is during a spiked ball. A spiked ball is the act of driving a volleyball at a sharp angle into the opponent's court by hitting the ball down from above.
  17. NO 2ND OR 3rd BALL HITTING WILL BE PERMITTED. The ball must be sent over the net to the opposing team in one hit unless the ball clips the net while coming over, in which case the team has two hits unless the second hit goes into the net then the team may use up to the third play attempt, IF THIS DOES NOT OCCUR, THEN IT WILL BE CONSIDERED A FOUL.
  18. Protests will NOT be heard or entertained. ONLY the captain of a team is permitted, in a sportsman-like fashion, to question the referee's judgment AFTER THE POINT HAS BEEN PLAYED, however the referee's decision is final.
  19. Upon completion of a game, each team must clear the court within two (2) minutes. The next game is scheduled to start three (3) minutes thereafter. All teams and referees shall be expected to know their respective game times. All games shall start promptly. If a team is ready at the scheduled time and the opposing team is partially ready, the game shall begin. In the event of a teaming having no representatives, the game will be counted as a voluntary forfeiture. This rule will be in FULL force and effect throughout the tournament.
